Since my last post my domain name expired and was purchased by a website not in any way affiliated with me or Down syndrome. So, I’ve got a new blog name: www.talk-ds.org. Please let your friends know!
In one week I will be speaking with my colleague Krystin Turner, OTR/L on feeding and Down syndrome at the NDSC Convention in Washington, DC. Fantastic Feeders: Successful Feeding Skills in Children with DS will meet in Virginia B, Lobby Level at 8:30 am. This workshop will provide an in-depth look at feeding and the child with DS. Participants will identify the signs of feeding readiness across stages of development including keys to successful cup drinking and self-feeding. Discussion will include positioning during feeding, pre-feeding skills, mealtime routines, transition from tube to oral feeding, and taste/texture influence on oral motor skills. Presenters will also answer common questions such as, “Why does my child put everything but food in his mouth?” and “When should my child drink from a cup or straw?”
***Insiders tip*** We will also be sharing our “favorite tools” – items we use in our clinic that are available pretty much anywhere. For those of you who’ve followed this blog for sometime know how much I value products that work and are affordable.
I will also be facilitating a Sharing Session on Friday night on Behavior and Down syndrome from birth to school age. Please come to listen, share, and be encouraged!
If you are unable to attend any of these sessions but would like to meet with me, I am happy to arrange a time for coffee. Just email me at email@example.com.
